# Edit deals in the Sales Log

How inline editing works in the Sales Log and why some cells may be locked.

The Sales Log supports inline editing for day-to-day updates, while the full deal page remains the place for larger workflow actions and full write-up review.

## Where to find it

Open **Sales Log**, then click an editable cell.

Use the deal number or customer name to open the full deal page.

## Who can use it

Inline editing depends on your deal and field permissions.

If you do not have permission for a field or row, Autopilot keeps the cell read-only or shows a permission message when an update is blocked.

## How it works

### Text, number, date, and currency cells

Click the cell, make the change, then press Enter or leave the cell to save.

Press Escape while editing to cancel the current edit.

### Select fields

Some cells open a dropdown, such as finance status, status, salesperson, business manager, rebate status, payment method, or custom select fields.

Choose the new value to save it.

### Checkpoints and signatures

Some workflow fields appear as tickable cells, such as invoiced, shipping booked, PO done, profiled, delivered, customer signed, and manager approved.

When a tick changes a deal's lifecycle status, Autopilot still applies the same approval and required-field rules as the deal page.

### Status changes

The Sales Log status dropdown supports forward lifecycle statuses such as **Sold**, **Awaiting Delivery**, and **Delivered**.

Use the deal page for cancellation. Status cannot be set to cancelled directly from inline editing.

### Salesperson and business manager

Salesperson reassignment and business-manager assignment are permission-gated. If you do not have the relevant permission, those cells display as read-only.

## Important details

### Some changes recalculate totals

Pricing, add-on, rebate, and finance-related edits can update calculated values after saving.

### Approval rules still apply

If a required detail is missing, Autopilot can block the update and show the missing fields.

### History is recorded

Deal field changes are recorded in the deal history and audit trail.

## Troubleshooting

### The cell will not edit

You may not have permission for that field, or the current view may be showing a calculated/read-only column.

### A status change is blocked

Read the required-details message, fill the listed fields, then try again.

### You need to cancel a deal

Open the deal page and use the cancellation action there.
