# Manage your authenticator app

Set up, replace or remove the authenticator app used for password sign-ins.

An authenticator app provides a six-digit verification code for password sign-ins. This helps protect your account if someone else knows your password.

## Open your authenticator settings

1. Click your profile in the bottom-left corner.
2. Select **Settings**, then **Security** in the left sidebar.
3. Select **Authenticator app** under **Multi-factor authentication**.
4. Complete the identity verification shown.

## Set up an authenticator

Have your phone nearby with an authenticator app installed.

1. Click **Set up authenticator**.
2. Open your authenticator app and choose its option to add an account.
3. Scan the QR code displayed in Autopilot. Keep the setup page open.
4. Enter the current six-digit code for Autopilot from your authenticator app.
5. Click **Finish setup**. When setup completes, Security settings show the authenticator as **On**.

If you cannot scan the QR code, select **Can’t scan the code?** and enter the setup key manually in your authenticator app.

Use the current code whenever a password sign-in asks for an **Authenticator code**. The code changes every 30 seconds.

## Replace your authenticator

If you can still verify your identity, click **Replace authenticator** and follow the setup steps with your replacement app. Complete setup before relying on it for future sign-ins.

## Remove your authenticator

You must keep a passkey connected before removing your authenticator.

1. Click **Remove authenticator**.
2. Review the message and click **Confirm removal**.
3. Wait for **Authenticator removed.** to confirm the removal is complete.

Choose **Cancel** in the confirmation to keep the authenticator.

Password sign-ins will stop asking for codes from that authenticator. Your passkeys remain available.

## If you cannot complete setup or sign in

If a setup code is rejected, check that you entered all six digits of the current code. If identity verification expires, verify again before retrying.

If you lose access to your authenticator, use a passkey to sign in and open Security settings. If you cannot use any of your sign-in methods, contact Autopilot support.
