Sales log

Inline editing in the sales log

Update finance status, signatures, dates, and most other fields without leaving the sales log.

Last updated 20 June 2026

Most cells in the sales log are editable in place. Double-click, type or pick, hit Enter — the change saves immediately and everyone on the team sees it.

What you can inline-edit

Field typeHow
Text (e.g. customer reference, stock #)Double-click → type → Enter.
Number (e.g. sale price, kilometres)Double-click → type → Enter.
Date (e.g. delivery date, invoice date)Double-click → date picker → pick.
Dropdown (e.g. finance status, deal progress)Double-click → pick from list.
Checkbox (e.g. customer signed, profiled)Single click.
Custom fieldsWhatever the field type is — same as above.

What you can't inline-edit

A few fields go through the full deal form because they affect other things:

  • Customer name / contact — full deal form (validation + dedupe).
  • Vehicle make / model — full deal form (resets dependent vehicle fields).
  • Sale price + cost price together — open the deal so margin recalculates.
  • Trade-in details — full deal form (settlement affects total).

For these, click the row → opens deal detail → click Edit.

Permissions

Inline edit respects your role and permissions. If you can't edit a field via the full deal form, you can't inline-edit it either. For salespeople with salespeople_see_financials off, financial cells (margin, GP, cost) don't appear in the sales log at all — so there's nothing to inline-edit anyway.

Keyboard shortcuts

While inline-editing:

  • Enter — save and move to the cell below.
  • Tab — save and move to the cell to the right.
  • Shift+Tab — save and move left.
  • Escape — cancel without saving.

Validation

If you type an invalid value (e.g. a date in the past for a delivery, or a negative number where positive is required), the cell stays red and the change doesn't save. Hover the cell to see the reason.

Conflicts

If you and a teammate edit the same cell at the same time, last write wins — but Autopilot shows a small "updated by [name] just now" tooltip so you know what happened. The sales log auto-refreshes every 30 seconds in the background, so you'll usually see fresh data within seconds of someone else's change.
